Office Jobs and the Benefits of Chiropractic

If your job requires you to sit behind a desk for hours at a time, then you could be at risk for back pain, neck pain, sore wrists, and sore fingers. This is due to a lack of proper desk posture. Bad posture while sitting in an office chair all day is the main contributor to office workers’ back pain.  Many experts agree that sitting in a chair is the most stressful position for your low back and neck. The positive thing is you can improve your sitting posture and avoid back pain by practicing proper sitting posture. It is advised to use different sitting positions to keep your body in proper tune. By adopting proper sitting habits you will help yourself maintain good posture, which will result in reduced back pain. This blog post will offer some suggestions for proper and recommended ways to sit at a desk.

First, make sure that your office chair supports your spinal curves. The chair height should allow you to rest your feet on the floor or on a footrest in such a way that your thighs are parallel to the floor. Make sure that the armrests allow for your arms to gently rest with your shoulders relaxed. Also, keep objects such as your telephone close to you in order to minimize reaching. Stand up to reach anything you cannot reach while sitting. Never store anything under the desk.

Second, the keyboard and mouse need to be well within reaching distance and at the same height as your keyboard. While typing or using your mouse, keep your upper arms close to your body with your wrists straight and hands slightly below the level of your elbows. It is recommended to use keyboard shortcuts to reduce excessive use of your mouse.

Third, if you are often on the phone while simultaneously typing or writing, place your phone on speaker or use a headset in order to reduce straining your head and neck. Keep in mind that your monitor should be directly in front of you and within reach, with the monitor screen slightly below eye level. Keep in mind that you should always keep everything within reach in order to maintain proper posture and to reduce your chances of developing any pain.
